Based on research, exercise can reduce or eliminate the symptoms of depression and anxiety, and exercise goes a long way toward improving mood and self-esteem. However, exercise can sometimes become an addiction and have a negative influence on physical and mental well-being.
SIGNS OF EXERCISE ADDICTION:
-A person exercises excessively, perhaps several hours each day, without giving the body a chance to rest.
-withdrawal symptoms start to occur, such as: guilt, depression, and anxiety.
-exercise no longer improves quality of life- it becomes a habit which is maladaptive.
Most studies recommend 60 to 90 minutes of exercise three to four times a week. This is just an estimate because every person differs.
If you start noticing that you or someone close is missing important events because of exercise, exercising when sick or exhausted, or losing interest in other hobbies, counseling could be a fit to find healthier behaviors & other coping mechanisms .
